Call Center Drives Growth and Sustainability

The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) – Kirinyaga Chapter has taken significant strides towards revenue generation and sustainability by operating a call center since 2016. This initiative aims to provide valuable information and effective solutions to address the business challenges faced by its members. Operating from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m., the call center serves as a convenient “one-stop shop” for the business community in Kirinyaga County.

Entrepreneurs and business managers can now access a wide range of information through the call center, including details about government support programs, funding opportunities, government services, business permit procedures, and assistance on issues related to finance and market access. Initially comprising two staff members from the KNCCI Kirinyaga Chapter secretariat, the organization has plans to expand the call center and hire more personnel. The goal is to reach a team of five individuals, thereby increasing the availability of business solutions and assistance.

To promote the call center effectively, the Chamber has employed various strategies, including hosting events, utilizing social media platforms, and relying on the power of word-of-mouth recommendations. These efforts have yielded positive results, attracting both members and non-members to utilize the call center’s services. While the call center currently offers its services free of charge to both categories, the Chamber has observed an increase in its membership base as non-members decided to join after experiencing the value of this exceptional service.

The call center’s significance became particularly evident during the unprecedented challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Entrepreneurs required vital information and practical solutions to navigate through the crisis, ensuring the continuity or resumption of their operations following the lockdown period. The KNCCI Kirinyaga Chapter had 500 paying members before the pandemic hit. However, due to the call center’s instrumental role in providing timely support and guidance, the membership count has grown to an impressive 600. Undoubtedly, the call center has played a crucial part in this increase.

For those seeking further information about the call center, please feel free to reach out to Pauline Wangeci Mugo, the Chairperson of Kirinyaga County Chamber of Commerce, at paulinewangecim@gmail.com.
