Session Overview
In our everyday lives, we are constantly called on to make decisions, some whose outcomes are relatively inconsequential, others that could have a significant impact on our own lives, as well as the lives of others. Effective decision-‐making is also fundamental to a leader’s role. Rarely do organizational leaders make decisions in an environment of certainty, or in a vacuum. Rather, internal and external factors are constantly in play, adding to the complexity of the decision making process. This session will focus on ethical and transparent decision-‐making.
Learning Objectives
Ideally, decision-‐making is a rational undertaking. We will see, however, that this is not always the case. Decision making, whether done by an individual or in a group, is a process. The goal of this session is to assist you in making better decisions by becoming more systematic in your approach. We will explore how to improve decisions by understanding the key reasons that so many organizational decisions fail.
In this session you will:
- Evaluate when decisions are best made individually, or in a group setting, as well as the benefits and drawbacks of both approaches.
- Understand the steps in decision-‐making models.
- Refine your decision-‐making skills.
- Learn to overcome the most common factors leading to poor decisions.
- Consider ethical implications in decisions.
This session is part of CIPE’s 5-part course, Leading People and Organizations. The next session is Leading High-Performance Groups and Teams.
