Session Overview
Working in teams is an integral part of organizational life. This session will expose you to concepts for understanding groups and teams, how they behave, and for leading groups and teams. We will consider what influences team effectiveness, and learn how to build and sustain high performing teams. In addition, we will consider some of the factors that can threaten effectiveness, and how they can be overcome. Groups and teams will be examined from both a structural (macro) and an interpersonal (micro) perspective.
Learning Objectives
Organizations have learned the value of assembling teams to accomplish specific objectives. Teams are particularly effective when unique talents and expertise must be drawn from a wider range of individuals, when a project needs to be implemented across functional lines, and when an integrated response will better serve customers. Highly cohesive teams are able to adapt to change more readily as new challenges emerge.
In this session you will:
- Understand the structural factors of groups and teams.
- Answer the question “what does it take to be a good team member?”
- Apply tools for enhancing team effectiveness.
- Learn to overcome the most common team dysfunctions.
- Develop skills to empower employees.
This session is part of CIPE’s 5-part course, Leading People and Organizations. The next session is Developing and Engaging Entrepreneurial Culture.
