Women are most acutely impacted by the consequences of conflict and poverty in the Palestinian Territories and are also a significant source of civic leadership and untapped potential for economic development. Since 2014, CIPE’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) division has worked in partnership with the Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association (Asala) to identify the key barriers to women’s economic success in the Palestinian Territories. CIPE has supported Asala’s role as a leading voice for women entrepreneurs in the Palestinian Territories. Asala’s advocacy has propelled women to the center of the national conversation on economic recovery. This case study series is intended to document CIPE’s work with Asala and similar organizations around the globe, which was instrumental in informing and inspiring the founding of CIPE’s Center for Women’s Economic Empowerment (CWEE).
