Case Study: IMC Training and Certification Program in Armenia

A Case Study from Association Frontiers

The Institute of Management Consulting (IMC) of Armenia successfully leveraged management consultant training and certification as a key strategy to generate revenue and enhance its sustainability and resilience. With an offering that includes a four-day training workshop and a three-month mentorship for the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) credential, IMC Armenia enables its members and other customers to acquire the knowledge, skills, and certifications required to thrive in today’s competitive management consulting field.

The training and certification program started in 2018 as a collaborative effort between IMC Armenia and the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI), the global organization representing management consulting professional bodies. Annually, IMC Armenia promotes the launch of the certification program through multiple online and offline platforms, actively encouraging management consultants from various sectors, including marketing, human resources, finance, and others, to submit their application.

The candidate selection process is thorough, involving several evaluation criteria, including a minimum of three years of proven experience and the completion of 3,600 hours of consulting work within the three preceding years. Upon selection, candidates take part in a four-day training workshop led by IMC-certified professionals. The workshop covers management consultant competencies, consulting project methodologies, ethics, and the ISO 20700:2017 standards guiding the industry.

Those interested in obtaining the Certified Management Consultant award are required to sign a code of professional conduct, join the association, and be assigned a mentor who provides support and guidance in preparation for the examination. Candidates who pass the examination are granted the prestigious CMC credential issued by IMC Armenia and endorsed by the CMC-Global Institute Board.

IMC Armenia Certification Program

The CMC designation is valid for three years and is recognized in the 47 ICMCI member countries. The designation opens doors in the management consulting industry, providing peer recognition and strengthening the professional reputation and trustworthiness of its recipients.

The certification program has become an important source of revenue for IMC Armenia. The four-day training workshop is open to both members and non-members, with a discounted rate available for members who have been part of the association for at least three months. Each year, an average of 20 consultants participate in the program, contributing approximately 45% of the association’s annual revenue.

In addition to registration fees, IMC Armenia encourages participants to take advantage of membership benefits, leading many to join the association. The program enhances IMC Armenia’s reputation and influence within the business community and among potential supporters and donors, strengthening its long-term sustainability and resilience.

To ensure maximum outreach and participation, IMC Armenia employs a comprehensive marketing strategy. This includes email marketing campaigns targeting more than 500 consultants in its database, as well as social media promotion through both the association’s and its members’ accounts. Members actively promote the program as part of their ongoing support to the association, complemented by strong word-of-mouth recommendations.

Through these promotional channels, IMC Armenia effectively connects with its target audience, increases awareness of its courses and certification program, and attracts participants. In response to growing market demand, the association plans to offer the training and certification program twice per year starting in 2025.

IMC Armenia demonstrates its commitment to disseminating international management consulting standards and practices by prioritizing training and certification. This approach empowers consultants to meet the profession’s highest standards of competence, ethics, and independence, while also supporting the sustainability and resilience of the association.
