John Morrell is the Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE). In this role, he leads a worldwide team of accomplished professionals, and is responsible for strategically guiding program development and ensuring effective implementation of a portfolio of programs on anti-corruption, corporate compliance, women’s economic empowerment, public and private sector governance reform, and creating political space in closed countries. He personally designed and implemented numerous initiatives that build the political, civil, and market institutions necessary for private sector led economies and democratic societies across Asia and the Pacific.
Morrell is a noted and widely published expert on issues related to corruption and governance. Prior to joining CIPE, he investigated multinational corporations for bribery-related compliance problems, he designed corporate compliance and governance solutions to mitigate bribery risks, and he produced anti-corruption toolkits for donors and practitioners. He is a trained compliance and ethics officer and a member of the Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics. His professional experience also includes microfinance, political campaign management, and he founded a nonprofit organization supporting orphans in the Philippines. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia, an MS in Economics from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University, and was a Graduate Fellow in International Management at Oxford University.
