Civic Engagement in Cambodia
With a clear narrowing of democratic space in Cambodia, the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) must work within the structures and regulations of Cambodia’s authoritarian regime. Although this is a compromised choice, CIPE believes that leveraging the economic policy space allows for constructive civic participation to promote democratic norms, ideas, and values. CIPE’s long-term goal in Cambodia is to create and promote civic space. The strategy is to promote participatory economic policymaking, achieved by public-private dialogue (PPD), research and analysis, and women’s and youths’ economic empowerment. Through these efforts, CIPE is creating the conditions needed for possible larger, more institutionalized democratic reforms in the future.
