Rising Crime Rate in Karachi Metropolis

In Karachi which is the largest city of Pakistan with a population of 14 million (Pakistan’s total population is 150 million) at least 210 people lost their lives, 2,188 people were robbed and 920 people became theft victims in the month of May. These crimes deprived citizens of goods worth millions of rupees.

According to the crime data collected by The News newspaper for May, 110 people died in different mishaps, 38 were shot dead, 21 were murdered, 13 persons committed suicide, eight died due to burns wounds, six drowned, 13 bodies were recovered unclaimed, about 531 people lost their valuables, 815 mobile phones were snatched or stolen from different persons and armed men stole 512 motorcycles and 330 cars from various parts of the city. In May, 321 motorcycles and 223 cars were also stolen. Police claimed that they had arrested 720 criminals and recovered 569 valuables (gold ornaments and electrical appliances) from their possession.
