As China enjoys extraordinary economic growth and showcases exceptional resilience during the worst financial crisis in decades, observers nevertheless note that the country continues to suffer from a number of fundamental economic problems, not least of which is the increasing tension between the rich and the poor. In particular, large segments of the population have started to complain vocally about escalating housing prices in a distorted real estate market.
