We here at CIPE know that young people can be a powerful force for change! They bring to the table a new perspective on old issues and have innovative ideas as to how to solve the socio-economic and polictial impasses that they encounter everyday. However, youth often lack an avenue to bring these ideas to policymakers. Too often youth are seen by policymakers as the recipients of reform and not participants in the formation of the policy.
To give young people the opportunity to share their ideas, CIPE launched its 2009 Youth Essay Competition back in November. The deadline for submissions (March 1, 2009) is rapidly approaching and the essays that we have received thus far show deep thought and reflection on the issues and challenges faced by citizens from every corner of the planet. But we want to hear from more of the youth of the world. What do they think about the situation in their countries and what innovative solutions can they propose?
The competition is broken down into 3 categories: Citizenship in a Democratic Society, Educational Reform and Employment and Entrepreneurship and Leadership. Please spread the word about this great opportunity, and if you are between the ages of 18 and 30 – please enter our competition!
Winning essays will be published by CIPE as Feature Service articles!
