Vive la Communauté des Affaires

As the French elections approach, it is nice to see that business has decided to get involved. Medef, the largest federation of companies in the country, has organized a conference to show campaigners that the business community has “real issues” that must be addressed in order to better confront problems such as poverty and unemployment within the economy.

During its three-day conference – whose motto is “Reconciling the unreconcilable” – Medef is organizing workshops for executives, union leaders and policy makers on a raft of topics, including university reform, economic patriotism and job security.

“The pressure for a real debate needs to come from business and the media,” said Nicolas Bavarez, an economist and lawyer in Paris.

CIPE works worldwide to help developing countries understand and implement practices that encourage business-government interaction. However, it is always nice to see a little reminder from the developed world that the system can, and does, actually work in everyday life.
