Implementing a risk management system for the National Food and Drug Surveillance Institute – COLOMBIA

In an IT-centric world where physical inspection of 100% of imports is outdated and facilitating trade is a necessity, the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation (the Alliance) has brought together the Colombian public and private sectors to design and implement a new risk management system (RMS) for INVIMA, a key Colombian regulatory agency. The RMS will be applied to all imports of food, medicine, medical equipment and cosmetics with the aim of reducing inspection rates from 100% to 70% and below. This Project is the result of close cooperation between INVIMA and the private sector and also between government agencies which have committed to a coordinated risk approach.
