Emerging technologies are fundamentally reshaping the relationship between governments and the people they serve. Systems such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) present unparalleled opportunities for innovation and new risks to society, democratic institutions, and markets. How governments, individuals, and the private sector use these technologies to protect and advance their interests are among the most pressing issues of public policy discourse today.

To gain a better understanding of this subject, please join CIPE’s Policy and Program Learning Program Director Mikra Krasniqi for a timely conversation. Joining him are Samantha Hoffman, Senior Analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, and Louisa Tomar, CIPE’s Director of the new Center for Digital Economy and Governance. The panel will explore recommendations on how best to govern these technologies, so that they strengthen instead of weaken democracy, as well as erect safeguards against the spread of digital authoritarianism.
