Latin America and the Caribbean

Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean continue to be tugged in two directions. Some, like Chile, Colombia, and Peru are reaffirming democratic, market-oriented values. In contrast, the international economic crisis has inspired leaders in countries like Argentina, Bolivia, and Venezuela to pursue various statist economic approaches. Throughout the region, CIPE seeks to support increased dialogue, the strengthening of democratic institutions, and sound, market-oriented policy solutions to economic problems. In addition, CIPE strives to create solutions to high levels of informality, to promote the private sector role in democratic society through improved corporate governance and participation in public policy dialogue, and to develop leadership capability within the private sector and civil society.
