Tony Butler-Sims

Chief Operating Officer

Tony Butler-Sims oversees Human Resources, Information Technology, Safety & Security, Compliance, and Facilities & Operations. In this role, Butler-Sims is also charged with oversight of the Compliance function and serves as Chief Ethics Officer, responsible for ensuring that the organization’s compliance obligations and ethical standards are consistently upheld.

Butler-Sims is a strategic leader with a strong focus on fostering collaboration across operational areas to strengthen organizational performance.

Butler-Sims brings more than 30 years of experience in human resources and operations. His career spans service in the U.S. Army to his most recent role with CIPE partner Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA), where he led Human Resources, Information Technology, Security, and Facilities. He has deep expertise in developing and implementing policies and procedures that meet regulatory and donor requirements while creating space for staff growth and professional development. Butler-Sims is also highly skilled at leveraging technology to improve efficiency and operational effectiveness across organizations.

In addition to his professional roles, Butler-Sims currently serves as president of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) D.C. Chapter, is a founding member of the SHRM Executive Network, and is a member of the Forbes Human Resources Council. He holds an MBA in human resource management from The George Washington University and a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Outside of work, Butler-Sims enjoys traveling and continues to volunteer with the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.
