In Senegal, CIPE is supporting the Union Nationale des Commercants et Industriels du Senegal (UNACOIS), a business association representing 100,000 members, including shopkeepers, petty traders, and small-scale industrialists. Union Nationale des Commercants et Industriels du Senegal (UNACOIS) was created in November 1989 as an "association, devoted to the protection of Commercants". UNACOIS's Communication for Democratic Governance and Grassroots Participation project is helping to transform the association into a more formal, democratic business association that uses not only more modern technology and information sharing techniques, but also more formal business association management and advocacy techniques.

Recognizing the importance of the informal sector in Senegal, CIPE continues to build the capacity of Senegal’s largest and most dynamic informal sector association, UNACOIS. CIPE support is making it possible for UNACOIS to improve its website, broaden the distribution of its newsletter, publish economic indicators, and institutionalize important operations of its organization.
