The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) strengthens democracy around the globe through private enterprise and market-oriented reform. CIPE is one of the four core institutes of the National Endowment for Democracy and an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Since 1983, CIPE has worked with business leaders, policymakers, and journalists to build the civic institutions vital to a democratic society. CIPE’s key program areas include enterprise ecosystems, business advocacy, democratic governance, and anti-corruption & ethics.

CIPE and Provincial Business Leaders in Afghanistan Release Report Outlining Plan to Promote Economic Growth

Washington, DC -- In a move to improve the business climate and create more economic opportunity, the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and local business leaders from the Afghan province of Kandahar just released a Provincial Business Agenda (PBA) report that highlights recommendations for reforms to reduce corruption, ease access to credit, increase security, and improve infrastructure.

Confronting Gender-Based Violence: Empowerment through Economic Opportunity

Discussion focused on how women's economic empowerment helps reduce gender-based violence and how women can be supported to gain greater input into governance and public policymaking in order to have more say in the policies and laws that affect their lives.  Panelists drew on their experiences working to improve the lives of women around the globe, including country-specific expertise gained in the South Pacific, South Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa.
