The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) strengthens democracy around the globe through private enterprise and market-oriented reform. CIPE is one of the four core institutes of the National Endowment for Democracy and an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Since 1983, CIPE has worked with business leaders, policymakers, and journalists to build the civic institutions vital to a democratic society. CIPE’s key program areas include enterprise ecosystems, business advocacy, democratic governance, and anti-corruption & ethics.

Entrepreneurship in Pakistan: Trends, Opportunities, and Challenges

On Monday, the 14th of November, from 1:30 to 3:30pm, in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) hosted the launch of Invest2Innovate's 2016 Pakistan Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Report. In 2016, Bloomberg declared the Pakistan Stock Exchange the best Asian market, and MSCI reclassified Pakistan from a frontier market to an emerging market. Entrepreneurship is on the rise in Pakistan, a country with a young population and entrepreneurial energy, but challenges remain that could prevent the country from reaching its full potential.

CIPE Launches Women’s Business Resource Center to Support Entrepreneurship in Papua New Guinea

Washington, DC - In an effort to increase opportunity for women in Papua New Guinea (PNG), the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) has launched the PNG Women’s Business Resource Centre (WBRC), a first-of-its-kind institution in that country. The WBRC provides women from all backgrounds access to information and training on financial literacy and entrepreneurship, and help with navigating PNG’s business landscape.

CIPE and IACE Launch Hotline to Help Tunisian Businesses Facing Bureaucratic Hurdles

Washington, D.C. – In an effort to improve the Tunisian business environment and accelerate economic reforms, the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and the Tunisian think tank Institut arabe des chefs d’entreprises (IACE) have launched a hotline to help local businesses deal with red tape and bureaucratic roadblocks. The hotline was developed jointly with the government and the country’s two biggest private sector organizations, the Tunisian Union for Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts (UTICA) and the Tunisian Union for Agriculture and Fishing (UTAP).

Reasserting Democratic Values in Central and Eastern Europe

On Thursday, the 13th of October, from 9:00am to 3:30pm, the Atlantic Council, together with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), the International Republican Institute (IRI), and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), and in cooperation with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), held an event called “The Illiberal Turn?: Reasserting Democratic Values in Central and Eastern Europe.” The conference discussed the political, economic, and social currents that challenge the region's path toward greater cooperation, prosperity, and freedom.
