In Memoriam:  Aurelio Concheso

Statement/News Release

Aurelio Fernández Concheso, a long-time CIPE partner, business leader, and friend passed away in Miami, Florida this past Thursday, June 25, 2020.

The Center for International Private Enterprise is mourning the loss of one of its biggest champions.  For over 25 years, Aurelio Concheso worked with CIPE as a true reform leader of Venezuela’s private sector and a tireless fighter in the pursuit of liberty and free enterprise.  Concheso was also a prolific writer and columnist for various media outlets and co-hosted the radio broadcast “The Other Path” on Radio Caracas Radio (RCR).  In his writings and presentations, he never gave up on educating citizens on the importance of economic and individual freedoms.

As a CIPE partner, Concheso worked tirelessly to engage the private sector in strengthening Venezuela’s democracy. He was a leader in several business associations and civil society organizations and helped these organizations build consensus on how to improve the environment for free enterprise and democracy within the country.  Additionally, Aurelio was a founding member of the Free Enterprise and Democracy Network (FEDN) and was an active participant on the steering committee for seven years.  He was a key speaker at various CIPE events in DC and across Latin America, sharing his knowledge and insight on the private sector, free markets, and democracy.  He reminded us that the democratic rule of law requires both enforcement of the laws and respect for citizens’ rights.

The Center for International Private Enterprise extends its condolences to the family and friends of our long-time partner and friend, Aurelio Concheso.  His passion, commitment, and determination to securing a better future for Venezuela will continue to serve as inspiration for years to come.

CIPE had the honor to share and learn from Aurelio Concheso’s wisdom, beliefs, and opinions, reflected in various articles, podcasts, and blog posts below.
