Washington, DC – The innovative Elapedia App was recently named one of “The Ten Best Transparency and Good Governance Practices of 2017” in Latin America and Spain. Launched in 2017 by The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and Governance Consultants S.A., the Spanish-language mobile app gives investors instant access to corporate governance practices at 100 publically listed companies in the four Pacific Alliance countries (Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru).
Selected from more than 60 candidates, the Elapedia App and nine other winning initiatives were honored for their innovation and excellence on October 2, 2018 in Madrid, Spain. The award came from Telefónica, a global telecommunications and broadband company, and “Compromiso Empresarial,” a magazine focused on corporate social responsibility.
“This recognition is well-deserved,” said Andrew Wilson, CIPE’s Executive Director. “The Elapedia App gives investors a way to easily compare information on corporate governance requirements in Pacific Alliance countries. It promotes transparency and accountability, aims to level the playing field, and encourages the disclosure or elimination of conflicts of interest.”
Governance Consultants S.A., one of CIPE’s partners in Colombia, developed the Elapedia App using publically available data. The app provides information about boards’ policies related to managing conflicts of interest, risk management, and other topics of interest to investors.
“With continued funding, this useful tool can continue to benefit large companies looking to invest, put up a subsidiary, or buy a company,” Wilson said. “By efficiently harmonizing corporate governance practices, the app has the potential to greatly improve the flow of investments and help to strengthen Latin American economies.”
The Elapedia App represents an important step toward the economic and commercial integration of Pacific Alliance countries. Established in 2011, the Pacific Alliance’s goals include establishing the free movement of goods, services and people; driving economic growth; and overcoming socioeconomic inequality.
The Elapedia App can be downloaded for free from the App Store here.
