Six Essential Themes for an Economic Recovery Roadmap

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how we live and do business for the foreseeable future. Amid a rapidly evolving medical crisis, many countries are grappling with record unemployment figures, broken supply chains, and worries about limitations on personal freedoms. Governments and communities are turning more and more to the private sector for policy recommendations and potential solutions to alleviate the human and economic suffering.

CIPE and global partners have identified several universal challenges or themes that they believe must accompany coronavirus response and economic recovery planning in almost every country. Their collective ideas are outlined in an article entitled Six Essential Themes for an Economic Recovery Roadmap, written by CIPE Executive Director Andrew Wilson and recently published in the Diplomatic Courier. In the coming weeks and months, CIPE will address the six themes more deeply via a series of articles, podcasts, and events. The aim is to provide a more in-depth explanation of key factors, foster additional dialogue, and spotlight efforts by partners and colleagues worldwide who are working to make things better.

  1. RESTARTING ECONOMIES
  2. DIVERSIFYING SUPPLY CHAINS
  3. COMBATING CORRUPTION
  4. AUTHORITARIANISM AND CHALLENGES TO DEMOCRACIES
  5. ECONOMIC CHALLENGES FOR WOMEN AND MARGINALIZED GROUPS
  6. CHAMBER AND ASSOCIATION RESPONSES AND STRATEGIES
