Iraq – CIPE partner the Kurdistan Information and Strategic Studies Center (KISSC) held an advocacy session on the private industrial sector in the Kurdish region of Iraq to improve the environment for business. Participants included regional parliamentarians, government officials, business associations, academics, and civil society who worked toward implementing recommendations of the 2012 Kurdistan Business Agenda (KBA), such as strengthening access to finance. This event is the last in a series of 11 advocacy sessions based on the KBA that strengthened private sector participation in policymaking while improving the environment for private business.
Iraq – CIPE partner the Iraqi Businessmen Union (IBMU) held a Public-Private Dialogue Conference in Baghdad, the final event in a series of advocacy and dialogue sessions between Iraq’s private sector and its government. Approximately 100 participants contributed to the event, including key members of the Parliamentary Economic Committee and representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet’s General Secretariat, business associations, academia, and the media. Government officials committed to implementing and enforcing legislation affecting the business community, recommended continued inclusion of the private sector in the policymaking process, and thanked CIPE and the IBMU for supporting these activities. CIPE’s Mohammed Al-Saeedi addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of improving the environment for small and medium enterprises to strengthen the private sector and thereby drive economic growth.
