Unpacking Corruption
This report presents the opinions of the business community on the perceptions, manifestations, causes, effects and remedies of corruption in the business environment of Pakistan. Islamabad Chambers of Commerce and Industry undertook this survey, with support of Center for International Private Enterprise, to understand the perceptions of young entrepreneurs on corruption as a part of an advocacy project to improve the business environment by addressing regulatory reforms. The most important message is that corruption is viewed as a governance issue, which includes poor law enforcement, archaic regulations and weak internal compliance system. Thus it calls for improving both public administration and corporate governance. The results of this survey will be used to inform and educate the stakeholders about the institutional causes, and effects, of corruption within the business environment of the country.
