Tuesday and Wednesday, June 13 and 14

Prior to the conference, participants attended a two day CIPE international trade training program. Sessions focused on such topics as Electronic Commerce, Foreign Direct Investment, Export Promotion, Globalization, and the Development of an International Trade Action Plan.

Wednesday, June 14

Luncheon

Clive Smith, President and CEO of NewDeal, Inc., spoke at a luncheon for the training program participants at the Madison Hotel. Following his speech, Smith, to the delight of the participants, raffled off 20 laptop computers equipped with NewDeal software. Those who did not win did not go home empty handed, as all participants received a copy of NewDeal software.

Congressional Reception

On the evening of June 14th, a Congressional Reception was hosted for the participants by The Honorable Jennifer Dunn (R-WA), Honorary Conference Chairman. At the reception, Ambassador John Bohn, Chairman and CEO of Globalnet Venture Partners, presented the CIPE Entrepreneurial Award to The Honorable Jennifer Dunn. The reception was sponsored by the National Endowment for Democracy, IBM Corporation, and Eastman Kodak Company.

Thursday and Friday, June 15 and 16

Conference Agenda

The international conference was held at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Participants gathered together each morning and afternoon for plenary sessions. An impressive list of speakers, including The Honorable Charlene Barshefsky, U.S. Trade Representative and The Honorable J. Brady Anderson, Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, made presentations at these plenaries and then answered questions from the audience. Breakout sessions were held throughout the two day conference. They were divided into two tracks, International Trade and Association Development. Prior to coming to the conference, participants decided which track they would attend. Sessions available for International Trade included The Rules of Trade and How They Affect Your Members, Services for Members: How to Export and Attract Foreign Direct Investment. Association Development sessions included Policy Advocacy and International Issues, Association Financial Management, and Membership Development. Conference Reception

Astrid Pregel, Minister Counsellor (Commercial), Canadian Embassy, addresses conference participants at a reception hosted by the Canadian Embassy.
