Center for Economic Development (CED) Slovakia

The main objective of this project is to build capacity of the local business community to be able to understand and operationalize the principles of corporate governance. This will be accomplished through intensive education of managers, board directors and other stakeholders. Also, introducing up-to-date international corporate governance know-how, with a special focus on business ethics will be a key CED undertaking. The seminars to be organized by the CED focus on: business ethics, combating corruption, fostering transparency and accountability in the business community, and cultivating a competitive and rule of law-based business environment in Slovakia. The current CIPE-funded project has laid the groundwork for creating an alliance with business community for operationalizing corporate governance best practices in Slovakia. CED, in close cooperation with the Institute for Economic and Social Reforms (INEKO) has founded Business Alliance of Slovakia (PAS), whose main goal is the improvement of the business environment and investment potential in Slovakia. With the business community as its core, PAS will help CED through direct advocacy efforts involving their members (including Coca Cola, US Steel, Globtel, Kappa, Whirlpool, Citibank).
