Russian Speakers at the Seminar:

  • Veniamin Golubitsky, State Property Minister of the Sverdlovsk Oblast'. His presence contributed to the high-level visibility and impact of the seminar.

  • Natalia Morozova, an attorney in the Moscow office of international law firm Vincent and Elkins, described shareholder protection mechanisms provided by the Russian Federation Legislation ­ and she gave examples of violations of these shareholder protections. Ms. Morozova is one of Russia's leading corporate governance attorneys. Her deep understanding of corporate governance principles, combined with her in-depth knowledge of actual practices in Russia, made her talk particularly effective. Ms. Morozova, like a number of speakers, donated her time for this event, because of commitment to improving corporate governance and rule of law in her country.

  • Alexander Goldin, CIPE's Moscow office manager, gave a cogent, highly informed overview of what corporate governance is. (Read his speech in Russian)

  • Pavel Kudiukin, a leader of the Moscow-based Experts for Labor Foundation, spoke on labor relations and corporate governance. Mr. Kudiukin was a political prisoner in Soviet times. (Read his speech in Russian)

  • Vladimir Pletnev, First Deputy Chairman of the Arbitration Court of Sverdlovsk Oblast'. He spoke on Property Rights of Founders of Joint Stock Companies

  • Dmitryi Murzin, a lawyer with the Ekaterinburg Committee for Shareholder Rights. He spoke on OECD principles of Corporate Governance and Russian Legislation. (Read his speech in Russian)

  • Alexander Metsger, an Expert with the Ekaterinburg Center for Collective Invetsments. He spoke on Information Disclosure of Joint Stock Companies.

  • Vladimir Krysov, Chairman of the Sverdlovsk Regional Branch of the Federal Securities Commission. He spoke on the body's activities in protecting the rights of securities investors.

  • A panel that included the head of the shareholder division of Urals Jewelry, a major local joint stock company; an official of the regional branch of the Federal Securities Commission; and other regional property officials.
