Editorial/Communications Assistant

This position reports to the Communications Director and interacts with a variety of program teams. The incumbent is responsible for proofing and editing publications of an international non-profit organization and assisting with special projects and reporting throughout the organization.

Core duties include:

  1. Editing, revising articles for quarterly newsletters and other publications
  2. Layout of publications and/or coordinating with vendors on layout and printing
  3. Maintaining publications inventory
  4. Editing, compiling program proposals and reports
  5. Project administration, including processing invoices and formulating contracts

Additional duties may include:

  1. Developing web-based content
  2. Maintaining project files
  3. Drafting articles and presentations
  4. Logistical support for special events such as meetings and conferences
  5. Assist as needed with correspondence with CIPE’s board of directors
  6. Other duties as assigned

Position requirements:

  1. Bachelors degree or equivalent
  2. Demonstrated writing and proofreading skills
  3. Ability to use advanced features of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access, and internet search engines
  4. Experience using print layout software such as InDesign, Pagemaker, PhotoShop
  5. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  6. Ability to handle multiple, detail-oriented tasks with limited supervision
  7. Foreign language abilities helpful but not required – Arabic, French, Russian, or Spanish preferred

Program Assistant, Middle East and North Africa

Reports To:    Program Officer, MENA – Levant, Turkey, Iran

Scope: This position is responsible for providing administrative, programmatic and communication support for CIPE’s MENA programs in Iran, Lebanon, Turkey, and West Bank/Gaza.

Responsibilities:

  • Correspond via email and phone with partners in MENA countries to coordinate program development and track program progression.
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, editing and preparing quarterly reports, program proposals, articles, press releases and other documents for submission to donor agencies and CIPE internal and promotional use.
  • Create and maintain a variety of program and correspondence files for the MENA department.
  • Process invoices, vouchers, field office liquidations and other financial procedures.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking project reports, approvals and payments.
  • Handle international travel arrangements and local meeting logistics, as needed.
  • Prepare routine correspondence and mailings.
  • Perform clerical duties, as needed.
  • Adhere to appropriate office procedures, CIPE, NED and USAID policies and procedures.

 

Education:

  • BA degree or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of spoken and written Arabic and/or Turkish preferred but not necessary.

Experience or Skills Desired:

  • Excellence in writing, reporting, and English composition.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative to manage multiple, detail oriented-tasks with limited supervision.
  • Background in MENA economic and political affairs and/or democracy development programs.
  • One-two years of administrative office experience.
  • Computer knowledge, preferably Access, Microsoft Office, Internet, and Power Point.

Program Officer II

Reports To: Senior Program Officer, Europe and Eurasia

Scope: This position is responsible for supporting Eurasia program staff in the development and implementation of country strategies, communications strategies, and support grants to indigenous business organizations in Russia and Ukraine.  Program Officer will provide support to other regional initiatives on an as-needed basis.  Primary area of activities will be in support of CIPE’s NED grant program, and oversight of CIPE’s USAID program in Russia.  Position is project funded and contingent on further funding.

Accountabilities:

  • Work with Senior Program Officer in developing and implementing a strategy for accomplishing CIPE’s objectives in the region.
  • Develop and manage the communications programs in Russia and Ukraine to attract and inform indigenous business organizations, public policy research centers, and opinion leaders in target countries regarding CIPE’s overall programs.
  • Develop and manage a program of direct projects and grants for Eurasia.  The grants program has the following dimensions:
    1. Identify potential grantees and counsel them on how to develop CIPE project proposals.
    2. Analyze project proposals against the overall strategy, grant guidelines and criteria.
    3. Conduct comprehensive background checks on applicant organizations and key individuals. 
    4. Monitor and evaluate grantee performance to ensure full compliance. 
    5. Evaluate completed projects.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other donor organizations to create support linkages with CIPE strategies and to monitor trends.
  • Work with USAID and other assistance programs to develop joint projects, grants and/or contracts to further private sector development.
  • Provide management support and backstopping to CIPE’s USAID Russia program, including communications with and oversight of Russian staff, and ensuring project meets established objectives and workplan.
  • Monitor current events and US relations in the region and assess the impact on ongoing and planned CIPE projects.
  • Understand and adhere to appropriate grant and office procedures, and policies of CIPE and the US Chamber of Commerce.

Minimum Experience

  • Candidate should have a minimum of five years experience in and understanding of the region, its business issues, and/or CIPE and its operations
  • College degree or related experience preferred
  • Fluency in Russian
  • Proficiency in MS Office, specifically MS Word, Excel, and Access
  • Detail oriented and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

Program Assistant for the Middle East and North Africa

The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), a non-profit, non-partisan affiliate of the US Chamber of Commerce is seeking candidates for the position of Program Assistant Middle East and North Africa. CIPE promotes democratic and economic development around the globe through working with indigenous business and policy groups to promote market-oriented solutions and citizen engagement in the policy process.

The Program Assistant-MENA is responsible for providing program, administrative and communication support for CIPE’s programs in the Middle East and North Africa region, with specific emphasis on Iraq, the Gulf and Yemen. The incumbent will provide assistance to the Program Officer and the Program Coordinator.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate with field office staff in Amman and Iraq in developing and expanding CIPE’s various programs in Iraq, the Gulf and other Middle East countries.
  • Provide quality control for CIPE’s Arabic original and translated publications and website.
  • In collaboration with CIPE Baghdad, CIPE Amman and CIPE Washington, develop Arabic and English communication tools and services to support CIPE’s regional programs.
  • Coordinate, review and edit quarterly reports, program proposals, articles, press-releases and other documents for submission to donor agencies and CIPE internal and promotional use.
  • Create and maintain a variety of program, financial, correspondence and contract files, both in paper form and electronically
  • Process and track payment requests, grant modifications, documents for signature, narrative and financial reports, etc.
  • Prepare routine correspondence and mailings
  • Assist in writing and compiling quarterly reports, proposals and budgets
  • Perform clerical duties, as needed
  • Handle international travel arrangements, process travel expense reports and local meeting logistics.
  • Adhere to appropriate office procedures, and CIPE, NED and USAID policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years of administrative office experience
  • Background in international affairs and/or the Middle East with an emphasis on political and economic issues
  • Computer skills, proficiency in MS-Office, specifically Word and Excel.  Internet research skills desired.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple, detail-oriented tasks simultaneously with limited supervision
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Arabic preferred.
